CINDY BLACKMAN
Cindy Blackman (born November 18, 1959 in Yellow Springs, Ohio) is an American jazz and rock drummer. Blackman is best-known for recording and touring with Lenny Kravitz. Blackman has recorded several straight-ahead jazz albums under her own name, and has performed with acclaimed jazz and rock artists, including Pharoah Sanders, Ron Carter, Sam Rivers, Cassandra Wilson, Angela Bofill, Buckethead, Bill Laswell and Joe Henderson. Tony Williams is her main drumming influence. In 1997 she recorded Multiplicity as a drum teaching video. "To me, jazz is the highest form of music that you can play because of the creative requirements," says Blackman.
VERNON REID
Vernon Reid (born August 22, 1958) is an English guitarist, songwriter, composer and bandleader. Best known as the founder and primary songwriter of the heavy metal band Living Colour, Reid was named #66 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
Critic Steve Huey writes, "[Reid's] rampant eclecticism encompasses everything from heavy metal and punk to funk, R&B and avant-garde jazz, and his anarchic, lightning-fast solos have become something of a hallmark as well."
STEVE JENKINS
Steve Jenkins has been involved with music since the age of three. His logic for wanting to play bass was simple; he just couldn't decide between the drums or guitar. This partially explains where his eclectic, versatile approach to his instrument comes from. A recent review of Jenkins's playing on David Fiuczynski's 2008 release "KIF express" sums up his unique style in one sentence: "He belongs in the vanguard of formidable young bass soloists, but he separates from that pack by locking down every groove that comes his way." In late 2004, Steve Jenkins released his first solo album--the critically acclaimed self-produced "mad science" featuring David Fiuczynski, Adam Deitch, and others.He is currently working on a follow up to be released in late 2009.
